About Sunbiz Daily

Making official Florida business data accessible for public transparency

What is Sunbiz Daily?

Sunbiz Daily is a web application that makes Florida business registration data accessible and easy to explore. We maintain a mirror of the public record published by the Florida Division of Corporations — the complete registry of corporations and LLCs, fictitious names (DBAs), and partnerships — and add newly published filings every business day.

We transform this raw data into an interactive experience: browse the newest filings on a map, search the whole registry by name, location, or industry, and pull it programmatically through a free API. Our AI-powered search lets you find businesses using natural language queries like "restaurants in Miami" or "plumbers near 33101".

Our Purpose

Sunbiz Daily exists to promote public transparency and make government data more accessible. While the Florida Division of Corporations provides this data publicly, navigating raw data files can be challenging. We believe everyone should be able to easily explore and understand business activity in their community.

Whether you're a resident curious about local business growth, a researcher tracking economic trends, a journalist covering development, or an entrepreneur scoping the competitive landscape, Sunbiz Daily gives you fast, filtered access to the data you need.

How It Works

The Florida Division of Corporations publishes its business filing records as public data files. We hold a mirror of the full registry and, each business day, our automated pipeline downloads the new files, parses the business information, and geocodes addresses to place them on the map.

The data includes entity names and numbers, filing dates and status, principal and mailing addresses, registered agents, and the people on each filing — officers for corporations, owners for fictitious names, partners for partnerships. We categorize each business by industry (such as "Restaurant" or "Plumbing") by matching keyword rules against its name, calculate geographic coordinates for mapping, and use AI to parse natural language search queries.

Because industry categories come from the name alone, they describe what a name suggests rather than verified activity — a business whose name gives no signal is categorized "General Business".

Data Source: All business data comes from the Florida Division of Corporations (Sunbiz) public FTP server. This is official government data made available for public use.

Developer API

For developers, researchers, and data teams, Sunbiz Daily offers a free public REST API with programmatic access to the complete Florida business registry — not just the recently registered businesses featured on the map and search pages, but every corporation, LLC, fictitious name, and partnership on file with the state.
